The Resurrection is the name given to the event in which the Emperor restored life to the system that would become known as the Nine Houses System or the Dominican System and established its presence as a thanergetic Empire of necromancers.
History[]
Little is known about the events that led to the death of the system. The Emperor claims only "rising sea levels and a massive nuclear fission chain reaction..."[1] Blood of Eden Commander Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead Kia Hua Ko Te Pai Snap Back To Reality Oops There Goes Gravity expands on this claims imply that the bomb was the Emperor's fault and that it in some way the ten billion resulting deaths gave him power.[2]
Following the death of the system, the Emperor resurrected the star, which he named Dominicus, the Nine Planets, and his companion, Alecto.[1] Following these resurrections came a more staggered resurrection of the people killed in the bomb—wave by wave they were restored to life (aside from a number kept in a sleeping state as a safeguard).[3]
The Emperor has never shared the secrets of resurrection with his disciples, however, he explained to Harrowhark Nonagesimus that the circumstances of her birth closely resembled resurrection—"To all intents and purposes, your mother and father committed a type of resurrection [...] They did something nigh-on impossible. I know, because I committed the same act, and I know the price I had to pay."[4]
Results[]
The Emperor's first human resurrection, Alecto, suffered greatly from her resurrection. Described as "monstrous," it is agreed that her mind did not come through whole and well.[1] This is assumed to have been fixed as the Emperor's Disciples and the rest of the inhabitants of the Nine Houses have suffered no known ill-effects.
Dominicus and the Nine Planets are widely believed to be a successful resurrection with the only consequence being the planets changed nature to a thanergetic system—the nature that enables necromancy to exist. Unknown to the inhabitants of the system, the death of the planets and their subsequent resurrection created the Resurrection Beasts or planetary revenants.
